Welcoming a newborn is one of life’s most precious moments and capturing those early days with beautiful photos is such a special way to preserve them forever. But if this is your first newborn session, you might have lots of questions! I get it. That’s why I put together this Newborn Session FAQ to answer the most common questions parents ask and to help you feel calm, prepared, and excited for your session with Jennifer Heinz Photography.

1. When is the Best Time to Schedule a Newborn Session?
The ideal window is between 5 to 14 days old. During this time, babies tend to sleep deeply and curl up naturally making it easier to pose them safely and beautifully.
If you miss that window, don’t worry! We can still capture gorgeous photos, but newborn sessions done later may look a little different in style.
2. How Long Does a Newborn Session Take?
Newborn sessions usually take 2 to 3 hours. That might seem long, but it’s important to go at your baby’s pace. We take breaks for feeding, changing, comforting, and sometimes just cuddling. Patience is key! The relaxed pace helps keep baby calm and ensures beautiful results.
3. What Should We Have Ready for the Session?
Here’s a quick checklist:
Diapers and wipes
Bottles or breastfeeding supplies
Pacifiers (if used)
A favorite blanket or special heirloom (optional)
I provide all the professional wraps, props, and blankets, so you don’t need to worry about those unless you want to add a personal touch.

4. How Do You Keep Baby Safe During the Session?
Safety is my #1 priority. I use professional posing techniques and never force baby into any uncomfortable positions. Every prop is sanitized, and I bring along a space heater to keep baby cozy and comfortable.
5. Can Siblings or Parents Join the Session?
Absolutely! Including siblings or parents makes for meaningful family portraits and beautiful memories. I’ll guide you all through poses that keep everyone relaxed and connected.
6. What if My Baby is Fussy or Doesn’t Sleep?
No worries! Newborns are unpredictable, and that’s okay. We work around baby’s mood, and I have lots of tricks to soothe and settle little ones. Sometimes a feeding break or a gentle swaddle does the trick, and if not, we focus on candid moments instead.

7. When Will We Receive Our Photos?
Typically, your edited gallery will be ready within 1 to 2 weeks after the session. I’ll notify you when your images are ready to view, download, and share! You’ll have plenty of options to order prints, albums, or digital files.
8. How Do We Prepare to Look Our Best?
Wear comfortable clothes you feel good in. Solid colors work great on parents to keep the focus on your baby. Avoid busy patterns or logos. You should feel relaxed and confident!
9. Can We Customize the Session Style?
Definitely! Whether you love minimalist, natural light looks or soft pastel setups with props, we’ll design a session that fits your vision and style. Feel free to share inspiration photos or ideas before your session.

10. How Do I Book a Newborn Session?
The best way is to reach out while you’re still pregnant to reserve your spot because newborn slots fill quickly! Contact me through my website or DM on social media, and we’ll get your due date on the calendar. I’ll send all the prep info once you’re booked.
